Oral prophylaxis– a must

Does the title sound like a figment from some cosmological treatise? Don't worry….it's nothing that scary. Actually, it's just another name for professional teeth whitening.

Whatever goes through your mouth - food, drinks, smoke, etc. - accumulates on your teeth and forms a pellicle film that coats the enamel of your teeth. This pellicle film is what we try to remove when we are brushing. But this film is not that easy to remove.

Mechanical cleaning by brushing can only remove the mechanically attached food and stains, while oral prophylaxis takes out the hardened, cement-like coatings and dark-colored stains from smoking and, yes, coffee and tea (hot or iced)!

So, I recommend twice-a-year (minimum) regular professional cleaning (oral prophylaxis) sessions with your friendly dentist to keep your teeth shining white always.
